... There are more than 550 different organizations and clubs that you can join to be involved in your school and it’s also a good place to meet people (UniveristyofWashington.edu). Oregon State University is located in Corvallis, Oregon. Even though Corvallis isn’t a big city, it is in Oregon and only about an hour and half to drive back to Portland. Oregon State University has about 300 clubs and organizations that you can get involved in. It’s a co-ed school and there are 12 different residential halls (OregonStateUniversity.edu). Also it is said that Oregon State University’s campus is one of the safest campuses on the west coast (OregonStateUniversity.edu). They are in the Pac-10 conference which is also a big subject at the west coast schools. University of Arizona is like University of Washington in some ways. It also has a park like campus and has some landmarks (Fiske, 27). There’s a huge grassy area in the middle of the campus where most students gather and socialize (Universityof Arizona.edu). A near eighty percent of students that attend to University of Arizona live off campus so housing isn’t as hard to find as University of Washington. And the University is located in Tuscan, Arizona. Just like University of Washington most of the social life is located in Tuscan. University of Arizona also has many clubs that are open to everyone (Four-Year Colleges 90). And just like the other two schools, University of Washington and Oregon State University, University of Arizona is also in the Pac-10 conference so all 3 schools compete against each other and other west coast universities. The second factor that I researched was admission requirements. An admission requirement is probably the most critical and crucial issue for graduating high school students. There’s absolutely no reason for a student to research and apply to a school if you can’t meet the school’s standards. Though some college books have the school admission requirements, the information could be out of date even if the book is a year or two old. The best place to find up to date information about the school is their very own webpage they have set up. Now a day most colleges require a rather moderate GPA, as well as a reasonable SAT or ACT score. But the higher the reputation the school has, the higher the scores need to be in order to attend to the school. Also attending colleges is competitive because more and more people are trying to attend colleges and the people with the best applications are usually the ones that are able to enroll to the school while the others must find another school to try and apply to. I started out with University of Washington since it’s the school that’s on the top of my list. University of Washington’s standards are fairly difficult. Even though a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is considered, the average grade point averages of students that attend to the school is a 3.6, also you must have a score of 1030 on SAT’s (Franek, 627). University of Washington doesn’t require an admittance essay. The second college that I went to look at was Oregon State University. The requirements for Oregon State University are moderate. You only need a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 for in-state students to be guaranteed admittance. If you don’t reach the requirement of a 3.25 then your grade point average and your SAT or ACT scores will be considered. Also you are able to write an entrance essay if your grade point average doesn’t meet 3.25 and the school will look at the essay and decide whether or not if you’re able to attend the school (Four-Year Colleges 2131). Applying to this school is manageable because it isn’t as difficult as applying to University of Washington but being an in-state student will give me an advantage over those who are out-of-state. Also housing won’t be as expensive since I am an in-state student. Many Oregon students attend Oregon State University or University of Oregon. The third school that I looked at was University of Arizona. This school is also moderately difficult to attend like University of Washington. You need a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for your application to be considered, you must send your SAT or ACT scores and you must have SAT scores of 1110 (Franek, 55). Applying to school doesn’t seem as difficult as applying to University of Washington because getting a grade point average of 3.0 doesn’t seem difficult to get and a score of 1110 on SAT’s also seems manageable. The only problem is that most of the students that attend to University of Arizona are out-of-state students so it’s very competitive to be enrolled since so many students are applying from out-of-state. The last aspects that I chose to do research on are the strong programs that the Universities offer. I believe this area is important because some schools offer different programs which you can major in and if you attend a school where your major has a weak program then you won’t be able to get the best education from your classes. I’m planning on majoring in business so I c...
