Ever since then Bennie wanted to “cure.” But it will take a lot of money to get her through her schooling. And Bennie is not the only Younger with a dream that takes money, her brother, Walter, wants to be a businessman. He wants to work for himself and not serve another. Him and two of his friends want to open a liquor store. Mama’s dream is the one that is most practical. She wants a house for her family. All these dreams are in reach after a very sad moment. Mama’s husband and Bennie’s and Walter’s father dies, and they will receive ten thousand dollars in insurance money. Mama’s first action is to buy a house, and she wants to save a portion for Bennie’s school. Walter feels as if he should have a say in how the money is spent, and throws a fit much like a two year old when his mother refuses to use the money for such a purpose. Finally she gives in and instructs Walter to put aside three thousand dollars in the bank for Bennie, and then he may decide how to use what is left. Walter does not follow these instructio...
