I hadn’t known exactly how much of an effect those words would have on me. Forty-eight hours later when that ultimatum ran out, the United States declared war. A war on terrorism, terrorist and anyone associated with terrorist. A war that is still being fought today. Two years, five months, and six days following attacks of September the 11th, I was sworn under oath in to the armed forces of the United States and the state of Iowa as an enlistee of the Iowa Army Nation Guard 834th Engineer Company as a Medical Specialist. I have already completed Basic Combat Training and will soon be on my way to Advanced Individual Training that will finalize my enlistment with the Nation Guard. Although my unit has 56 soldiers deployed in Afghanistan and 53 soldiers deployed in Iraq I am not afraid to be deployed. I now take the word that President Bush has said (“… Great harm has been done to us. We have suffered great loss. And in our grief and anger we have found our mission and our moment. Freedom and fear are at war. The advance of human freedom -- the great achievement of our time, and the great hope of every time -- now depends on us. Our nation -- this generation -- will lift a dark threat of violence from our people and our future. We will rally the world to this cause by our efforts, by our courage…”). I am proud to be serving my country just as my familly has done in the past. Just as President Bush I also believe that we will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail. I live life by a creed and a code that every soldier in the US Army lives by. The Soldiers Creed is as fallows: I am an American Soldier. I am a Warrior and a member of a team.
