With the help of the French Major, they learned to shoot precisely and kill Redcoats. In conjunction with fighting the soldiers, the militia stopped British supply lines. They took supplies including guns and also their uniforms. At the end of the movie, the militia joined the Colonial regulars and fought at the front line. The most impressive scene in The Patriot was when Mel Gibson’s character came back to finish the war even though he had lost his son, Gabriel. Carrying the flag that Gabriel had sewn back together, he rode his horse to where the army was marching and raised it up high. Cheers came from the men as he rode by them and he felt a sense of honor. He sought for revenge for the death of his two sons, Thomas and Gabriel, and honored them by continuing to fight. The Patriot is truly a sad movie. There are many scenes that highlight the human tragedy of war. A few months after Gabriel enlists in the army, he comes back home, weak and wounded. He wakes in the morning to find redcoats and colonials lying injured on the porch. Colonel Tavington, seeing his men and the rebels, orders Martin’s house to be burned, slaves taken away, rebel wounded shot, and Gabriel to be hanged. Martin’s younger son tries to save Gabriel and gets shot by Tavington. Another scene was when Colonel Tavington orders the townspeople to gather in a church.
