People simply aren’t given the opportunities to even be exposed to many of these types of films. Unfortunately, as a result of this, people miss out on many great films. For example, the movie “Hero”. This is a foreign film made in China that had received rave reviews and even an Academy Awards nomination. This film never even reached America In fact, we find out that Miramax, an American film company, paid $20 million for the rights and never even released it. Meanwhile, companies like Disney are thriving in places overseas. If other countries can see worth in showing American movies, why cant we do the same with foreign films? Obviously foreign films often deal with themes that are very different from ones displayed in American ones. “The ideologies, opinions, and images portrayed can offend, enlighten, or inform the viewer about issues the director chooses to focus on”, says Mark Rubello in his article “The Portrayal of National and Foreign Politics in Film”.
