Hiroshima and Nagasaki

... the first city that felt the wrath of the atomic bomb. On August 6th, 1945 at 8:00 A.M., Japanese time, American forces were detected heading for the southern part of Japan. Warnings started going out to several cities in southern Japan, but a radar operator in Hiroshima determined that their weren’t a threatening amount of American airplanes headed for Japan so the alerts were called off. At 8:15 the Americans dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. As soon as the bomb dropped the city was completely leveled and 66,000 people were killed (Parker 1-2). Nagasaki, Japan was soon to be the next victim of the atomic bomb. On August 9, 1945 at 7:50 A.M. an alert was given out in Nagasaki, but once again it was called of because only a few American planes were spotted and the radar operators thought that they were just exploring the area and collecting information. So at 11:02 the American planes dropped the Atomic bomb. The bomb exploded over the industrial part of Nagasaki half way between Mitsubishi Steel and Mitsubishi-Urakami Ordnance Works. In the end of the Nagasaki bombing 39,000 were killed. Even though the bombing of Hiroshima was executed to perfection the bombing of Nagasaki had a few problems partly due to bad weather.
