Water usage
... consumer and profitable for the producer. Do we need someone to step in and regulate what happens with our Great Lakes here in Michigan? Definitely! However, who gets that opportunity? Is it government regulated or is it a privately regulated consumable? I definitely believe that someone needs to be regulating the water usage and rights, but I still am not sure what would be in the best interest of the people now and in the future. One of the main arguments of the public sector is that there is a very limited supply of usable water and that will eventually become a problem without strict regulations on its usage. I was taught that the water cycle is a constant revolving door and that water would not run out. Water levels are always fluctuating, but in the history of man, we have not run out yet. The public sector is also stating that private industry is misusing water for their benefit and that is making water levels go down. Aren’t farmers using a lot of the water for irrigation? I haven’t heard any people protesting them or picketing the farmers in the area about the water they are using. Some may say that they are using the water to benefit the public by irrigating crops and providing water to animals we later consume. Don’t we also consume the bottled water? I myself buy bottled water daily for a variety of reasons. Not to mention that I haven’t heard of any farmers sending beef or eggs to hurricane ravaged areas like the water bottling companies have sent water. Why aren’t we concerned with the farmers’ use of the water? Our technology should be put to some good use further developing desalinization processes. If we could come up with some better and more cost-effective ways to desalinize some of the saltwater, we would have a much larger water amount we could use. I am firmly convinced that we will not run out of water. For those that are, this would be one way of guaranteeing it would last a lot longer than freshwater alone. The Great Lakes have so much of our freshwater supply that this issue is one that is close to home. Michigan needs to safeguard against...
