Introduction
Southern Africa’s wild Chacma baboon (Papio cynocephalus ursinus) population is branded as being the pest of the nation. As a London tourist explains, baboons are to South Africans what raccoons or, say, squirrels are to Americans (Winda Benedetti, 2003). ...
This report discusses both sides of the debate based on opinions and documented information of both the native South Africans, foreigners and tourists. The question is “What is the publics view on rehabilitation of the Chacma baboons” This is important as the only rehabilitation centers in Southern Africa for baboons were established by foreigners who disagreed with the public’s treatment of their native primates.
