It’s almost ironic how a substance that kills is sold in stores but a substance that does good for an entire nation is banned. When a person goes to the bar and consumes too much alcohol the person usually becomes belligerent and wild. About half of the crime throughout America is committed while under the influence of alcohol (Bureau of Justice Statistics). How ever, smoking weed relaxes you. Unlike alcohol, which makes you hostile, marijuana urges you to interact with people in a social aspect and to also enhance your creativity. People who smoke marijuana are laid back and more likely to look at the big picture then to blow things out of proportion. Not only does marijuana calm you down but it relieves stress too. It is medically proven that the agents in marijuana allow a person to relax and not worry about the troubles of their everyday life (GMS). If marijuana would become legal more people would be stress free and able to handle the curve balls life throws at us everyday. It would also give people an outlet to release their stress. Instead of taking it out on their families or co-workers they would relieve stress by themselves and with out confrontation or drama. Right now in the United States we have a problem. The problem is we don’t know how to control the illegal sales of marijuana. If we would legalize it we would automatically alleviate this problem. By stopping the underground selling we would be cutting down on the crime rates and drug wars that have been affecting us for decades. Also the legalization of this drug would help lower the National Debt. By legalizing the distribution of pot in stores it would generate huge amounts of taxes that the government would benefit from. Also marijuana is a naturally grown substance, which means that you only need to purchase the seeds to gain a product. Marijuana doesn’t just help our economy it helps our health too. Marijuana can be used for medicinal purposes. It helps patients with glaucoma, AIDS wasting, spasticity from multiple sclerosis, depression, chronic pain, and nausea (GMS). But the biggest health issue that marijuana helps to alleviate is anorexia. One effect of smoking marijuana is hunger. This gives the patients who suffer from this disease the opportunity to eat and not throw it back up. Yet the government still feels that we should have to resort to illegal purchases of this drug. How much evidence does the government need to finally legalize this drug? The government feels that there are more bad issues about this drug then good ones. They say that marijuana makes you stupid. When really marijuana allows your mind to expand and lets you think outside of the box. The government says that marijuana causes lung cancer, but cigarettes cause lung cancer and many more diseases that people suffer from every day. The anti-marijuana organizations say that marijuana is a gateway drug and leads to the use of other drugs. They make it sound as if it’s guaranteed that you will do other drugs if you smoke pot, this is as far from the truth as possible. Many people in this world smoke marijuana their whole lives and never touch another drug, because they choose not to become a slave of addiction.
