Christmas as we know it is shit. ... Oh but how I envy those Christmas cherubs, receiving their mountains of toys with simultaneous elation! ... Was I ever one of them? ... I am sure that once it did, for the sight of Christmas lights and the sound of carols bring back a ridiculous nostalgia that I cannot escape. ... Prior to it, December 1st was the annual OHara family-viewing day of A Christmas Story, a movie that despite my ever-growing holiday contempt makes me laugh until tears come. ... I was young and unable to catch most of the humor , but I enjoyed this yearly ritual nevertheless. I would sit in the middle of my parents and observe the reactions the movie brought. I recall how odd their faces seemed, so much like my own on Christmas Day, so childish. ... Once he returned, Christmas CDs were played (always Nat King Cole’s Christmas Song and Jack Jones’ White Christmas) and we danced and sang as we adorned our little home with garlands and snowy villages.
