In primary school the environment for learning is much more formal. Learning is seen as a process where "essential skills such as problem solving or communication occur in relation to something" (Cullen, 1998. p.3), this is contextg based. Learning activities are meaningful but relate to curriculum and not necessarily to children's experiences.l Margetts (1997) notes that the attitudes and expectations of teachers in both early childhood and primary is often based on training. Other factors that affect the different attitudes towards children's learning is the adult to child ratio, product based cognitive learning approach of the school environment and daily routines.
