Dougy believes that he is hopeless at everything and has no purpose in life, but he soon discovers that when he is placed under extreme pressure he can over come all fear and think of amazing plans, such as: when they are stuck in the roof space he thinks of using the rifle and dives down to get it, and also when Raymond refuses to get to safe ground Dougy talks to him and in doing so he gets Raymond out of the water. So by the end of the book Dougy’s personality has changed from sad and lonely to happy and knowing that he can accomplish anything. The personality of Raymond is a little like the opposite of Dougy,s for it changes from happy and full of hope to sad and lonely. He starts off happy and really good at sport, but that all changes when the gun fight starts. Raymond, Dougy and Gracey are in the hall and Raymond has a rifle.
