His friend’s say he is a phenomenal storyteller and that is what he does with his music tell a story. Money was something that also influenced him greatly. Growing up in a poor neighborhood and wanting to provide for the people he cared about pushed him to where he is now. With the skills he had, the love he had for his lyrics and the music itself, Ice Cube helped put West Coast rap on the map for good. I enjoy listening to rap, but I like it more for the beats. When it comes to Ice Cube I love listening to his stories and I can somewhat feel or see what he is trying to portray. As a person, he is not a role model in my book, but that has nothing to do with his music. His lyrics are mainly negative, violent, or condescending, but what makes them so powerful is the truth being spoken. Yes it might be vulgar and avoidable, but the foul language and unclean words being spoken put an emphasis on the message being sent. All the negativity came about because of his surroundings and how he was brought up; his music reflects the way he lived and what went on around him. He had and still has a lot of stories to tell. “It Was A Good Day” was the piece I chose performed by Ice Cube.
