Short story writers Terry Dalrymple, author of “Salvation,” and Scott Blackwood, author of “In The Shadow of our House,” will join novelist Neil Connelly, author of “Buddy Cooper Finds a Way,” to read from their works at 7 p.m. in the Spindletop Room on the eighth floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. Before the readings, they will participate in a question-and-answer forum at 5:30 p.m. in Room 108 of the Maes Building. Dalrymple, a professor of English at Angelo State University, has been called both “truthful” and “humorous”in his short story “Salvation”. Don Graham, author of “Kings of Texas: The 150-Year Saga of an American Ranching Empire,” says, “This collection explores two preoccupations in West Texas: Religion and Sex. Dalrymple’s comic touch is leavened with genuine pathos.” “Dalrymple knows how to wring truth from a story,” said Robert Flynn, author of “Growing Up a Sullen Baptist and Other Lies,” and “with humor and insight manages to find hope of redemption.” Blackwood, who directs the Writing Center at the University of Texas at Austin, creates unforgettable characters that are portrayed as normal people who don’t get fairytale endings.
