Thre types of internal combustion engines

...lizes an injection pump that times, measures and delivers the fuel to the injectors. The injectors atomize the fuel and deliver it into the cylinders, where the engine uses the heat and pressure of the air to ignite the mixture as it compresses them all together. Because a diesel engine uses high compression to ignite the fuel/air mixture, the engine needs to be built heavier and sturdier then other types of engines, raising the cost and weight ratio for every horsepower unit provided. Diesel engines are strong, reliable and efficient engines, however they are heavy and expensive to build, which limits the cost effectiveness and application they can be used for. Gasoline/alcohol engines are the most common type of engine used by people because they are lighter and cheaper to produce than diesel engines. In gas engines, a carburetor or fuel injector is used to deliver the fuel to the cylinders and they use spark plugs to ignite the fuel/air mixture. Because the gas engine does not need as much compression as diesel engines, they can be built lighter and cheaper, which makes it better choice for many applications that portability is a concern. The gas engine is the most reliable starter in cold weather, making them more versatile in multi-season climates. Of all the fuel types used to power engines, gasoline is the most available resource. Gasoline is more refined than diesel and therefore it has less British thermal units and it is harsher on the materials used to make the engine, which cuts down the longevity and power of the engine. Gasoline engines are very popular because the weight makes them quite versatile and their cost makes them more affordable to own and repair; however, they do not have as much power and they wear out quicker than diesel engines. Liquid petroleum-gas engines, commonly referred to as LP-Gas engines, are quite similar to gasoline engines. Like the gasoline engine, the LP-Gas engine uses a carburetor, spark plugs and they are built lighter than the diesel engine. Unlike the gasoline engine, the LP-Gas engine requires a converter which changes the liquid petroleum to a vapor by warming it creating a pressure drop before reaching the carburetor. By needing to raise the fuel temperatures to greater degrees for combustion, it is more difficult for LP-Gas engines to start in colder weather climates. Liquid petroleum is a by-product of gasoline manufacture and also can be obtained from natural gas; therefore, it may be cheaper than gasoline if your location is near to a source. The sale of liquid petroleum is not as common or accessible as gasoline or diesel fuel, making the LP-Gas engine less desirable to the common person. LP-Gas engines usually have a longer life and consume less oil; they tend to run smoother because liquid petroleum burns slower and more evenly. By using liquid ...
