Making ethical decisions require individuals to possess good interpersonal and conflict management skills in the right proportion in order to be able to solve conflicts that might arise from the decisions they made. For example, The Utilitarian approach proves that the ethical decision-making process requires individuals to understand the concept of ethics and then analyze the different courses of actions available to them, followed by who will be affected by each action and what benefits and harms will be derived from each. Cognitive moral development refers to the stages through which people develop their ability to deal with ethical issues. The construct is composed of three levels, namely, preconventional, conventional, and postconventional and the two stages per level. Individuals at the preconventional level (stages 1 and 2) only follow simple immediate consequence to make moral judgements. However, individuals at the conventional level (stages 3 and 4) will abide by the rules and norms established by some external groups. And individuals at the postconventional level (stages 5 and 6) will appeal to self-selected universal principles for making moral judgments.
