The teacher would either have to come in on a day without school or re-teach four or five weeks later. Also, teachers would not receive any benefits for working more days out of the year. Many students also have dilemmas with year round schooling. It forces them to alter many of their routines as well. Athletes would come to school on days without school, and they would have to find transportation. While summer is vary important to students, it would be lost with this new system. Taking away summer is removing a goal from some students. Common breaks every couple of weeks removes the importance of Christmas and Spring Break. Maureen Downey agrees: “Summer vacation is a tradition that families seem reluctant to surrender.” Further, how are teenagers supposed to keep summer jobs when they have school year round? It is impossible. They would have to find a new job every couple of weeks, a very difficult task. Students would much rather keep the system they have than change to a year round system. Changing regular school patterns cause too much trouble for just about everyone. What used to be a twelve week summer is shortened to six weeks. However, there would be a three week break every nine weeks. In result, positive changes would occur. Test scores of students would improve. Enrichment classes could be held during the breaks.
