Obsession With Appearances
... where kids start to think for themselves. They idolize the older kids and copy their trends. They begin to obsess about their brand of clothes and the styles that that company promotes. With their adopted style, the cliques and popular groups start to form. The main reason for this is the judgment aspect of middle school trends. The ones that look the coolest are the coolest and those dressed like losers are the losers. The example of middle school fads is like a smaller scale model of the Hollywood “stars” scene. If you were to watch VH1 or the E! Channel, you would see the subliminal pressure they imply to make people want to fit in. They “advertise” what the rich & famous like to eat, wear, and even do. With this pressure, viewers begin to form the belief that if they wear what the stars wear, do what the “stars” do, or eat what the stars eat that they will be looked at in a similar light.
