During Akhnaton’s reign he led an artistic revolution to go along with his religious turnover. He believed that art should reflect everyday life. Until his reign, art was focused on death and the afterlife. For the first time other people were shown on the same level as the paroah, and the art showed this. After Akhnaton’s death the people removed his name from historical monuments, destroyed most of the art of that time, and went back to the traditional religion. After this Greece was divided into City States and was ruled by different politicians, somewhat like the concept of our democracy. The Greeks then used their religion to illuminate their own lives, rather than to give them divine guidance. They turned to art and lititure, rather than prayer, as a means of trying to discover themselves. The Greeks then believed that they as humans had some control over their own destiny. ...
