Another similarity both essays share is that they are both about companionship and relationships between a male and female. “Her main point – that when it comes to working partnerships in a marriage, men get the better deal” (McCuen and Winkler 480), in reference to “I Want a Wife.” This undoubtedly states the occurrence of both relationship and companionship. “Courtship Throughout the Ages” is an entire essay written about relationships, and is clearly expressed in the title. “None of the females of any of the species she created really cared very much for the male… always inventing ways to make the male attractive to the female” (Thurber 240). This shows how the males and females act towards each other, both positively and negatively. One aspect that sets these two essays apart is their setting; the time period which they were written. “Courtship Throughout the Ages” was written in 1939. At this time men had to win women over and impress them.
