This type of environment where I grew up is one of the main reasons I decided to join an after school youth group where I met students from different schools, backgrounds, and races. Also, there were no “cliques” I was so used to seeing every day of my life. We traveled to an Appalachian Community in Kentucky and the destitute city of Tijuana, Mexico for Habitat for Humanity projects. Each person I met had a different experience. After high school I then attended Villanova University where I was also faced with the diversity that was not present in my home community.
