If one were to not experience anything out of the ordinary in life, I would assume that their life would be dull and meaningless. Shelby wanted to provide a happy life to her daughter even if it was at the expense of herself. Those thirty minutes is the time that she would spend with her daughter, the sacrifice that she would give just to provide another life. The six women in the movie: Shelby, M’Lynn, Truvy, Annelle, Clairee, and Ousier, form a bond that seems as if they’ve been friends their whole lives. Truvy owns and runs a beauty shop where most of the movie takes place. This is where the gossip, tears, and happiness is shared. Ousier provides the story with the comic relief.
