How does it affect my mind? Are there any long-term effects, or short-term? Is it dangerous to go a night without sleep? I finally decided to find out the answers to these questions. Insomnia has a tendency to cause fatigue, which most have felt. After a long night with no sleep, or even restless sleep, your body is tired and doesn’t want to do anything. You just sit there feeling exhausted. Your coordination is noticeably worse; you become clumsy and forgetful or can’t even concentrate. In fact, research carried out in Australia suggests that sleep loss can have similar or worse effects than drinking alcohol to excess. Another thing that is caused by insomnia is obesity. Yes, surprisingly you can get fat if you don’t sleep. This is because the lack of sleep drives down the number of growth hormones in your body (these hormones are released during sleep), which causes the body’s proportions of fat and muscle to get off balance. Next, your body takes in more carbohydrates than are needed. Finally, you have gained 20 lbs. and you are calling Weight Watchers because you have no clue where all this weight came from.
