How Hagar's experience with love contributes to the development of character and theme in The Stone Angel.

...in wealth and status even if that involved his loss of personal integrity. He acted like a Machiavellian hero, someone who seeks to advance himself politically and socially, whatever the cost. In addition, since the lost of integrity have been advanced in Rich’s personality, he later on had no problems in lying to the jury in the court. ”Rich: Then he said Parliament had no power to do it.”(pg.94) With these words, Rich perjured himself to condemn More to death, which shows how corrupted Rich became. At the end of the play Rich eventually gets what he wanted however, by then he was lacking any personally integrity because he agreed to do anything just to get what he wanted, which shows corruption and also shows how a man can become corrupted once he has sold his integrity.
