The Post-Modern(1960--) l General situation The Post-Modern has made us think of the identity of building since her appearance in 1960s. When we design, we should reconsider the history. We should try to inherit tradition. She lets us go into a pluralist city. Pluralist doesn¡¯t mean mix. It means continuous combination. She makes us consider the artificial environment and tradition. l Evaluation The post-modern doesn¡¯t blindly reject tradition of building culture. She insists on popular and pluralist. Because of the adduction of history and sign, she makes building become more thoughtful, and not only the housing¡¯s machine. Her biggest advantage is to reveal the modern¡¯s biggest weakness --too much ration and lack of fabric of the city. l Situation in China A lot of Chinese architects don¡¯t understand the issue of post-modern so far. They just imitate the foreign famous architects. They themselves lose the most valuable of an architect¡ª¡°original¡±. And there¡¯ll be a new international style in China. The post-modern emphasizes the identity of architecture. I think chinese architects should be deep into researching the characteristics of Chinese, her traditional culture, and the combination with contemporary society develop with technology.
