GETTING SAVED

...as our spirit. Though we may still die physically, the moment we are saved and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and follow His teachings is a guarantee that our Spirit will no longer die and will continue to live with God for eternity. When we are saved we also gain peace with God. Our sin causes our eternal separation from God. This separation is a moral separation. God is holy; man is not. God is good; man is not. God is just; man is not. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, all are eternally separated from God. Someone has to fill the gap between man and God in order for us to be reunited with Him. The divine solution to this problem was for Jesus, God’s only son, to became sacrifice for sin. God is just and the justice of God demands a sacrifice for man’s sin. He could not allow sin to go unpunished. But God is loving and compassionate that He does not want mankind to be eternally separated from Him that’s why Jesus Christ died on the cross for us. In John 14:16 it says “ Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Jesus”. God makes salvation completely available through Jesus Christ. Jesus paid the penalty for our sin. He took our place and our punishment. He took our curse and gave us his blessing. He had a sinless life that’s why he was the only one qualified to pay the penalty for man’s sin and to bridge the gap between God and man. Therefore, our salvation is based on what Jesus did for us on the cross. It has nothing to do with what we do for him. Jesus alone can and did pay the penalty for sin. It is said in Ephesians 2:8,9 “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” We are saved by God’s grace when we turn from sin and put our trust in Christ alone for salvation. We have all sinned against a holy and righteous God. The penalty for sin is eternal separation from God in hell. God is just and must punish sin. He is also loving and does not want us to go to hell forever. Therefore He sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for sin by dying on the cross. Because of his sinless life, death could not hold him. Jesus Christ resurrected and our sins have been forgiven 2,000 years ago. We receive salvation when we stop trusting ourselves that through our own efforts we can be saved and place our trust in what Christ did for us. In John 3:7 it says “You people to be saved must be born again.” Now you may ask what do I mean by being “born again”. It’s more than changing a religion or doing what other people call “alive alive”. It is accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior and having a genuine personal relationship with God. Being born again is the full and complete belief, trust and surrender to Jesus Christ. You as a human being can’t begin to grow physically until you are born. Likewise, to grow spiritually we should be born spiritually. Being born again is the act of putting into practice your declaration of Jesus as Your Lord and Savior. An example of this would be saying that Jesus is your Lord and doing things to please Him. Our faith in Jesus should not be fruitless. The fruits that our faith in Jesus will bear are the deeds pleasing to God’s eyes. However, this does not mean that once you become saved you will not sin anymore. It’s just that t...
