I think, the comparison between the relation of Nazi and Jew and that of Sylvia and her father only express part of the author’s feeling, which is rage, anguish and powerlessness towards her father’s death. However, why Sylvia’s reaction was so fierce is because her father’s position in her heart is irreplaceable. Therefore, she hated her father because he left her and decimated her entire world, but in her deep heart, she was very willing to be with her father again. In the second stanza, Sylvia wrote: “Daddy, I have had to kill you…Big as Frisco seal”. According to my understanding, kill her father here means to clear the memory of him. This alludes that Sylvia’s father had brought her happiness and good memory, which is the reason why she was reluctant to accept the fact of his death. However, she portrayed her father as a “Marble-heavy…Ghastly statue with one gray toe”. This gives the audiences a lifeless, ghastly and marble-cold image, which symbolizes her father corpse. Plath tried to talk with this statue, but “I never could talk to you, the tongue stuck in my jaw.” Her words were not able to penetrate the hard marble to reach her father. Therefore, Sylvia wrote“I build a model of you, a man in black with Meinkampf look”. The model who is to replace her father and give her safety here, I think, refers to Sylvia’s husband, Ted Hughes.
