By doing this he upset many people but with time Lincoln knew that there would be equality with blacks and whites. Lincoln made people think about the blacks as more than just slaves, but as people that are the same as them. Giving people this new way to view things made him a great leader Abraham Lincoln helped free the slaves in many ways. By doing this he caused the Civil War but he knew what was right and knew what he had to do. Lincoln endorsed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution abolishing slavery. He also established the Emancipation Proclamation. Abraham Lincoln is the one president that abolished slavery. Abraham’s vision to keep the union together helped to make many of his decisions. In the North there were many factories and they used immigrant workers, so the abolishing of slaves did not affect them. However, in the South, the slaves were how they got their work done, and when Lincoln started banning slavery, states started leaving the Union.
