“Not having capital punishment in Britain is the cause of the increase in crime today” Discuss

...the cause of the increase in crime today. I think there is no deterrent to the murders. Why do I think about that? Now I will show you a table that is the numbers of victims of “normal” and abnormal murder before the capital punishment was abolished. Normal Abnormal Total Suspect committed suicide Suspect insane 1957 1958 1959 1960 1961 1962 1963 1964 1965 1966 1967 1968 1969 1970 1971 1972 57 47 57 51 54 56 59 76 77 88 90 96 80 112 118 113 55 44 50 45 42 57 48 49 50 29 52 45 28 19 40 26 23 23 28 27 22 16 15 10 8 5 12 7 10 4 15 10 135 114 135 123 118 129 122 135 135 122 154 148 118 135 173 149 Through this table, we can know the number of the normal victims increased from 1957 to 1972 the period that the death penalty existed in Britain. So this table can prove there is no deterrent to murders. Besides the table, my individual reason is that the main cause of the murders is the impulsion or losing the mind or control because something makes people very angry. When the people commit the murders without the mind, they never think the deterrent of the death penalty, just want to retaliate or get their villainous purposes. So capital punishment has no deterrent to the most of murderers. Consequently, in my opinion, there is no significance to hold the death penalty. I have a number of arguments against the death penalty.  Miscarriage of justice The most important and terrible one is the virtual thing that the innocent people will be executed and that there is no possible way of compensating them for this miscarriage of justice. Here is also another danger here. The person convicted of the murder may have actually killed the victim and may even admit having done this, but does not agree that the killing was murder. Often the only people who know what really happened are the accused and the deceased. It then comes down to the skill of the prosecution and defence lawyers as to whether there will be a conviction for murder or manslaughter .Thus it is probable that people are convicted of murder when they should really have only been convicted of manslaughter.  Trauma to the Criminals’ family and friends A second reason is the innocent family and friends of criminals must also go through in the time leading up to and during the execution and that will give them serious trauma for many years. It is often very difficult for people to accept the fact that their loved one could be guilty of a serious crime and no doubt more difficult to accept their death in this form. However, two wrongs do not make one right, because one right can not eliminate the suffering of the victim's family in a murder case and the suffering of the murderer's family.  Human rights A third reason is the execution has no human rights. Every form of execution causes the prisoner suffering, some methods perhaps cause less than others, but there is no doubt that execution is a terrifying and grues...
