The curious incident of the dog in the night-time
...hen suddenly the neighbour’s, Mrs. Shears’s, dog, is murdered by using a garden fork, and Christopher wants to investigate the murder, to find the murderer of the dog. This is the beginning a brand-new adventure. Haddon tells the story about this –in a strange way- likeable boy from Christopher’s point of view. The book is written as if Christopher himself has written it. So, on the one hand the book is really interesting, because you can imagine how Christopher thinks, and on the other hand, the book is very partial. Of course, there is no way of separating these two different ideas, because, you will be partial if you write from your point of view. Unfortunately, this is a weakness of the book, because Christopher’s thoughts always follow the same rules and there is no change in his thinking or in his use of words in his text at all. After a while the character of Christopher becomes very predictable and this is not good. Perhaps, some people say Christopher suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, and so he cannot write this book in another way, but I believe that the whole book as such is supposed to be good. In my opinion the main plot is good, because it is a bit unusual. You have the young Christopher, who is living in the house of his father.
