I pickup my mail everyday after I come back from work and the first thing that always catches my eyes is a little note on the top right hand corner of the envelopes that says “Save a stamp. Pay your bill online”. If the government were to raise the cost of a stamp, more people will switch to online banking, and eventually no larger revenues will be generated. The increased competition for a better, faster and on-time service among UPS, FedEx, DHL and many other postal service companies, has made the decision of pricing even harder. If a price increase on stamps were to go in effect without implementing existing service lines, not only will the company lose market share in the postal service industry, but also will end up cutting jobs due to having to balance the budget.
