...ic deeds were selfless and immediate. By conceiving this brilliant plan he saves the rest of his men from becoming the cyclops’s next meal. Furthermore, Odysseus is heroic in the face of danger when he tells Telemachus to, “Run then, while I hold them off with arrows as long as the arrows last. When all are gone if I’m alone they can dislodge me”(700). Odysseus risks his life to stay and fight. He has great courage to stay behind while his son retrieves the armor. Odysseus proves himself by facing danger and hardship resolutely. He is a genuine hero. Odysseus has weaknesses and flaws. For example, when Odysseus’s men want to make a run for it because they know the Cyclops will come back any moment, Odysseus only refuses and says that he “wished to see the cave man,” and this decision, for his friends was “no pretty sight, it turned out”(652). Odysseus wasn’t thinking about the consequences of this decision. He wasn’t thinking about the dangers or risks he was taking. His curiosity killed some of his men.
