Mary has a rude way of talking to her fellow schoolmates. In the scene where Peggy, Mary and Evelyn are all talking Mary throws a pillow at the door that Karen and Cardin just walked out and Evelyn says to stop because they will hear and Mary answers with “Who cares if she does? [Kicks table] And she can hear that, too.” Another example is when Mary is telling Peggy and Evelyn how she cannot go to the boat races, and she says to them “I won’t let you go if I can’t go. But I’ll find some way to go…” A few lines later, Rosalie enters and Mary’s response to her is “Close the door, you idiot. What do you want?” As you can see, Mary is very rude in the ways that she talks to others. Mary is also bossy and violent. When Mary orders Rosalie to move her things for her Rosalie refuses and Peggy and Evelyn volunteer to do it to get out of telling Mary what Martha and Mrs. Mortar were talking about Mary says, “Trying to get out of telling me, huh? Well, you won’t get out of it that way. Sit down and stop being such a sissy. Rosalie, you go on up and move my things and don’t say a word about our being down here.” Another example would be when Peggy refuses to get her money for Mary. Mary: Go upstairs and get me the money. Peggy: [Hysterically, backing away from her.] I won’t. I won’t. I won’t. [Mary makes a sudden move for her, grabs her left arm...
