...on television are actually true. They are made up with the intention of drawing in peoples attention and increasing the stations ratings. Reality shows have came along way in the past couple of years. Each year they continue to get more ridiculous. There are shows that swap wives, that determine who you are going to marry, and that make you eat bizarre animal parts as well as perform crazy stunts; And people participate in them without looking back or having any regrets. I sometimes wonder if this thing called reality TV is taking over our society. People basically put their lives on hold or even quit their jobs just so they can participate in these shows for a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s almost as if they are advertising themselves and just looking for a way to make money and get their fifteen minutes of fame. Is it all an act? After all, they are on television with millions of people watching them. There are some things that are still to be answered and reality shows are one of them. It’s time to check back in with reality. These people are letting reality TV run their lives, not just the people participating in them but also those watching them. It is as if everything pauses or comes to a complete halt when one of these shows comes on the air. Everything around them doesn’t exist anymore. Take the Bachelor for example, don’t get me wrong I love watching the show, but it is a perfect example of a reality show that is running their life. First off, you put everything you have on hold just to compete with twenty-four other women for a man who could ask for your hand in marriage. Second, each week you have to go through the curiosity of if you’re going to get a rose at the next rose ceremony as well as listen to the “bachelor” tell you the same thing he tells the other twenty-four women. How can these women know they want to be with this man for the rest of their lives? They don’t even know him. Yes, the stations ratings have went up from this show but doesn’t it mean something when none of the couples have lasted? It’s television, not a match making service, but is that what makes it so fascinating to watch? Maybe to some people, but to others maybe it’s just their daily routine to sit down and watch whatever is on. Why is television so fascinating and amusing to its viewers?
