Short story
...he house, making food and making things for the house which made her appear to be the perfect house-wife but she did have a dark secret. While Phiemon was working she was being visited by a strange man whom she was sleeping with behind her husband’s back. This event leads to questions about their seemingly perfect relationship such as: Did Philemon not satisfy Matlida’s needs both sexually and finacially? Is Philemon not giving Madilda enough love and attention? Did Matilda do this do get back at Philemon for something he did to her? It was a very confusing senario. He had chosen a way to punish Matilda by making her feel very guily and embarressed. He spoke in a normal, controlled way but his words carried an overtone of anger and violence. He told Matilda to treat the suit like a person and by doing this this he embarressed and belittled her breaking her self-confidence down to such a level that she had nothing left. The diction used in this passage illustrated to the reader the way in which Philemon spoke to Matilda. He spoke in a clear, controlled and soft voice but the words which he used in his sentances were dripping with anger and violence. “If he vanishes or anything else happens to him....Matilda, i’ll kill you.” Philemon felt betrayed and being so self-rightious and proud, his ego was hurt and he was blinded but this which prevented him from seeing the truth.
