The use of weapons will vary depending on the types of weapons the enemies have, the brutality of the war, and how advanced technology has become. Some weapons which have been used in the past range from swords to AK-47’s. More weapons that have been used are known as machine guns, Berretta 38’s axes, cannons, and shot guns. All have proven affective, but are used during different stages of warfare. An armies strategies can be vital to their success in war. One of the most common practice seen in war is the deceptive strategy. This means if you are close appear far, if you are strong appear weak, if your army is great in number appear to have few men. These kind of strategies prove to be beneficial during war because the enemy never knows what to expect and must always be prepared for the worst. Like in most situations people only prepare for things as much as they feel it is necessary. If an army is expecting the enemy to be weak then they most likely will be unprepared for an extremely strong enemy, which will give enemy a chance to gain an advantage. Deception is crucial during the time of war. When a country is in a war people tend to lose or lessen their morals. This means that things that people once saw as wrong is now good, or accepted, by many. No one wants to go to war, but when they do things change drastically. Where it was once wrong to kill it is now okay because they are the enemy. It isn’t right that the value of life is lessoned just due to war but it is necessary in many ways. If you don’t defeat the enemy then you will be defeated yourself. So, although it isn’t good that ones morals decline during the time of war it is basically a necessity of war. Each individual has their own views on warfare. Some think war is good, some think it is bad, and others just think it just has to happen and there is no avoiding it. Two people who view war in different ways are SunTzu and Lao-Tse. Sun Tzu sees war as a matter of vital importance to the State; the providence of life or death; the road to survival or ruin. He feels it is mandatory that it be thoroughly studied. He basically said that there are five fundamental factors of war. These are moral influence, weather, terrain, command, and doctrine. The first factor, moral influence, is that which causes the people to be in harmony with their leaders so that they will accompany them in life and unto death without fear of mortal peril. A ruler who possesses moral influence is one which the commander is more able, the army obtains the advantage of nature and the terrain , regulations and instructions are better carried out, and which troops are stronger. The second factor, weather, means the interaction of natural forced; the effects of cold winters and warm summers on the operations of the military in accordance with the seasons. The military must be able to fight in all different situations and maintain the same force. The third factor, terrain, deals with distances. The ground can be traversed with ease or difficulty. It can be open or constricted and greater or lesson the chances or life or death. It is essential to know the conditions of the terrain before sending out the troops. By knowing the distance and the degree of difficulty or ease of the land the troops can be better prepared. The fourth factor, command, gives the generals qualities of wisdom, humanity, courage, and strictness. The commander must have the wisdom to recognize changing circumstances and act immediately. If sincere his men will not doubt his actions. If he is humane, he will love mankind, be sympathetic and appreciative to others.
