Hope is the thing with feathers

...has hope that she will have her son back and that he may still be alive. The poem is ironic because she has lost her son and yet she still has hope that he will be returned. Even though they are torturing her son she still has hope that he still may be alive, and that they will not kill him. To me the poem is rather depressing. “Hope” Is the Thing with Feathers(1861) Emily Dickinson(1830-1886) The speaker seems to be someone that is rather happy and enjoys birds.
