The End

... would be proud.” “Thank you, I love you too.” The hugged and Carter walked out the door. The Enchanted Forest was only about three miles from his village, so he decided he would walk as fast as he could to the Forest, and when he was in the Forest, he would take it slow and be very careful. The sights of the villages as he was passing just made him pursue Helena more. This famine had come as a surprise, and it took so many people away from him. The smell and feel of this journey haunted him, and it was something he would never forget. He started to think of his brothers and sisters, and his mother, which made him press on even harder. He was close to a quick jog now, and people from neighboring villages were staring, but he didn’t care. The faster he got to her, the one who could fix this horrible mess, the better. After an hour of running, he finally reached the Enchanted Forest. Helena was exactly in the middle of this thick Forest, so his plan was just to walk straight and he would fine her in no time. The brush was very thick, and it was very hard to see. It wasn’t even noon yet, but because of the gloomy, heavy air hanging over all the land it might as well have been dusk. He was taking one step at a time, carefully moving branches out of his way. He could feel things crawling on him, but he just brushed them off. “Ants” he thought. “Not a problem.” Then, out of nowhere, a rush of prickly things flooded his entire back, leaking up onto his neck and head, his shoulders and arms, creeping around to his stomach and legs. Carter started running at full speed, hitting branches and what not, flailing his arms about to shake off the mini’s. After just a little bit of running, he started to feel very heavy and he came to a clearing. He was sure the spiders were off of him, but he had suffered many bites. He saw a few shacks in this clearing, but before he could get to them, he felt very sleepy, and fainted on the dirt floor. When he finally came to, he was so shocked at what he saw he almost passed out again. He awoke to find himself on a bed in a shack with seven purple men fussing about him, putting certain medicines here and there. When he was over the shock of these oddly colored men, that told him that they were natives to the Enchanted Forest, and that they were purple because they had become immune to the mini’s, but to become immune they were purple forever. Carter thanked them greatly for the medicine that they gave him; the swelling went down and he was just a light lilac color. He asked them how much longer it was to Helena’s dwelling place, and purple man number three said “If you walk 75 paces directly from the back of our shack, you will come to a river, and across that river you will find her.” Carter said his thanks and was on his way. Carter could hear the river before he could see it. It sounded different, fresher than any water he had ever heard. At thirty paces before he reached the river, he saw her. There she was, the most beautiful bird he had ever laid eyes on. S...
