They were supported by Protestants what didn’t want any social and moral values changed in America, by the Catholics and Jews. According to Stanley Coben it wasn’t an extremist movement or an organization. Coben says that the Ku Klux Klan our just white, middle class, Protestants who were very conservative that wanted to keep America the same. The Traditional Nativism’s Last Stand When the KKK was under Hiram Wesley Evans and other leaders offered a program king of like its natives progenitors, the Know Nothings and the APA. Reverend E.H. Laughter, in “The Kall of the Klan of Kentucky”, said that “the KKK is not a lodge or a society or a political party.” It’s more of a mass movement, “a crusade of American people who are beginning to realize that they have neglected their public and religion duty to stand up for Americanism”. I disagree with this and the KKK. This country broke way from England and one reason we broke way would be to have free religion. Now the KKK just wants white Protestants in this country that is not having a freedom of religion. Right there would be going against there own word they contradicted themselves, and the KKK is saying we are standing up and are being Americanism. The KKK is trying to take away the blacks and the immigrant’s rights away by discriminating the right of religion freedom and public freedom. Also the Klan is contradicting on what they have said, they want to keep our rights what our Founding Fathers of American gave us but their not. In “The Fiery Cross, The Kourier, The American Standard, Down, The Imperial Night- Hawk”, and other media papers, the Klan has written. They show that they hate Catholics, Jews and other types of immigrants. The Klan said “Jesus was a Protestant” he had “split with the priest”. That would be one reason they don’t like the Catholics. Some other reasons why they hate Catholics, because there are too many of they immigrating over to America and they are taking away political power from the Klan. The Catholics are gaining more power. The Klan was scared that when they get enough power they will change the constitution. One thing the Klan though they would throw out separate church and state and they would listen to what the pope says and have the pope make the laws. I would have to say I would disagree with the Klan on this too. I am a catholic and as you can tell the Catholics didn’t change any of the constitution. Catholics are just like any other Christian we believe in God just like all of the other Christian religion does, it’s just that everyone believes different. In the 1920’s there were to many Irish immigrant coming to America and the Klan didn’t like what it saw so they wrote in there newspapers that the Klan was going to go back on its old roots and start assaulting churches. In Klansmen; Guardians Liberty said that “Jews are everywhere a separate and distinct people, living apart from the Great masses”. It also wrote that Jews are not “home builders or tiller of the soil”. The Klan though that the Jews were a negative role module with them promoting sex in movies. That the Jews had a monopoly over jazz music. The Klan though they were bootleggers. I would have to disagree with the Klan here because what have the Jews done to disserve all this discrimination threw out the world, I just don’t understand it. I think the big reason is that they don’t believe that Jesus has came yet and also that Jewish communities and families have a lot of money and money means power and the Klan didn’t want to lose any more power to the Jews. I think the Klan is like an over protective mother. Why would I say that is because the Klan is going to try in the 1920’s to protect America against change examples are blacks the Klan doesn’t want them to be free, immigrants they don’t like the way they look or they have a different culture, Catholics to many of them and they are gaining political power, they were filling up the cities and urban areas and that you would not stand up for America Catholics would do what the pope says to do. The Klan hated the Jews because the KKK thought they were anit- American because they have been labeled as different people. The KKK thought they were unproductive, they were bootleggers.
