In this paper I will discuss what distinguishes the mind from the body and how Descartes believes these two substances though clearly distinct from each other can actually work together. Descartes believes that the mind is a thinking, non-extended thing that is completely capable of existing without the body. According to Descartes the mind is indivisible and has no spatial location once so ever. This means that the mind can only be perceived as one whole substance, and at the same time does not physically exist in a way that allows it to take up space.
