the real tragic figure

...fins stabilize the fish. The paired pectoral and pelvic or also called ventral fins also stabilize and help the fish turn and stop. The lateral line is a series of sensitive receptors that allow the fish to feel vibrations from other animals and objects in the water; it is almost like a sixth sense. The lateral line also helps a fish search for food and find injured fish it can attack. Fish have gills on both sides of their head. The gill is made either of bone or of cartilage. It supports gas exchange membranes. The external opening is called gill slits. Fish breathe by drinking. A gulp of water flows from the mouth into the gills on each side of the head. Water flows across the gills, the oxygen diffuses into blood circulating through vessels in the filaments. Carbon dioxide in the fish's bloodstream diffuses into the water and is carried out of the fish’s body. A fish can control the flaps on its gills to prevent water from escaping. Another thing I learned about fish is that they use special adaptations to survive in the ocean. All fish species have different adaptations. Their special adaptations depend on where they live, where they feed, and what they eat. The mouth can be shaped in different ways a fish with a mouth on the bottom of its snout tends to feed on prey that is on the sea floor. An example of this is a bullhead fish. A fish with a mouth angled upward feeds on prey near the top of the water. A fish with this adaptation is a smallmouth bass. Fish with spines use this adaptation for protection from predators. A sturgeon is a fish that has spines for protection. Fish also use color to camouflage themselves in the sea so that they can hide from predators. Predators also use camouflage to attack prey more easily .A fish that has stripes hides in plants, like seaweed, for protection or to attack other fish. A fish that is dark on top is less likely to be seen from predators that are above it. Fish that are light on the bottom are less likely to be seen by fish near the bottom of the ocean floor. One type of fish with this adaptation is called a perch. Thirdly, something else we learned about in oceanography is about people that improved the studying of oceanography. These people were called the Vikings in their time they were the most advanced people when it came t...
