...doesn’t take place in a street in Verona like in the Zeffirelli but in a gas station in Verona. These type of changes as the setting is both humors yet keeps the same theme as in Shakespear’s play. Luhrmann’s recent setting is one of the reasons his version of Shakespear’s play exceeds the Zeffirelli version. “Departing is such sweet sorrow but I will say goodnight till it be morrow.” We all know this famous line but what version of the movie says it better? Which actors are better those of the Zeffirelli or Luhrmann version? Zeffirelli version should omit that line with the poor emotions given to it. Two crossed lovers have just fallen in love and are about to depart. They are about to marry the next day, with all this in mind departing is the least they would want to do. Zeffirelli might as well have just said bye and the same emotions would still be there. Happiness and eagerness is what the line wants and the actors of the Zeffirelli don’t come close to it’s demands. In the Luhrmann version as the departing from the balcony scene takes place emotions are put in that line that words can not explain. They say the words with not sadness but a bit of happiness and eagerness to wait what the next day will bring. “Zeffirelli brings not the standards of such a line show thee Luhrmann and lead thy path to better direction.” As a critic of Shakespear’s time would say. The balcony scene as it is called in the Zeffirelli version but in the Luhrmann version it would best fit the name of the pool scene. Zeffirelli’s version has Romeo and Juliet expresses their love for one another in the setting of Juliet’s balcony. Luhrmann takes the balcony and replaces it with a pool. In the Zeffirelli version Romeo climbs the wall and hears Juliet speak of him, he appears and spooks her. Although William Shakespear did do that on his play Zeffirelli could of taken some lessons from Luhrmann and made everything more recent. Luhrmann kept the part of Romeo climbing the wall for his Juliet but instead of him hearing her speak from the bushes he heard her speak right next to him. As she came down from the balcony only a statue hid them from seeing each other. When Romeo spooked her with his appearing out of nowhere she didn’t only get spooked but she made them both fall in the pool. In this version they don’t swap love sayings for one another through the balcony but in the pool. The sound in the Luhrmann version made it feel as if you were there. As they kissed you hear but every sound as if you were right there in the pool with them. The sound of the water due to there movement was so magnificent. The pool made the love scene better and with greater meaning. Not only the scene and the actors made the Luhrmann version better but the music did as well. Zeffirelli’s version had the same song repeatedly which I heard of as an annoyance. Luhrmann had a great deal of talent when it came to the music. After the party of the Cap...
