Affirmative Action: an Attempted Answer for an Unanswerable Problem

Affirmative action required all agencies, and any other group who received money from the U.S. Government, to have a ratio of people similar to the national population. One of the big beliefs against affirmative action is that it has programs such as “preferential treatment.” This program was set up to have businesses give jobs preferably to anyone that was not a white male. This program started something which Warren Kessler states in his essay, “Is Affirmative Action a Second Wrong?” something called reverse discrimination. Reverse discrimination is a flip from not allowing African Americans and other non-white or men groups to obtain loans, schooling, and jobs easily to making things difficult for white males. If you look at both of these ways they are both morally wrong as is any type of discrimination and violates justice. In my opinion affirmative action is a single faceted solution to a multi-faceted problem. Not only do you need to get more people to become open minded and give everyone the same chance, but you must also look at requirements for a job that might restrict an other wise perfect candidate.
