iraq war
...contentModules/printstory.jsp Not only were the Kurds being slaughtered in the north, but many innocent people were being placed in jails where they would be tortured until they died. The prison conditions that they were kept in were death warrants them selves. Inmates would be placed in casket sized boxes until they either confessed to a crime, whether they committed it or not, or until they died, which was usually the case. Another type of confinement that they would be placed in would be in rooms that were no bigger than three feet square. This condition was described by one ex prisoner of this place “At first they put me in a room that was no more than one meter high and the same wide. You couldn’t sleep nor could you stand in it. You could only sit. The room had been made with only on hole in the ceiling from which they would give us water. However, when the investigations started, you would lose your appetite for food but not water, because you are under great tension and pressure. I remained there for seventeen days with no food, only water” (Unnamed prisoner written by Adam Barwick published by London Today 2003) He later describes his other cells that he was held in. “In sector four they have ten rooms, all painted pitch black. Once there you could see nothing and would not know if it was day or night. For there was no light in these rooms. You could hear nothing. The rooms were infested with large numbers of lice and rats. I spent about eight months in these rooms” That is only one example of what was going on in Iraq. This type of thing and even worse was going on all over Iraq. The prisons would regularly “Clean House”. What this meant was that they would execute many prisoners in order to make room for more. America has a prison population over crowding problem but we don’t execute them to fix the problem. With these types of conditions, the Iraqi people wanted the United States to come and save them from all this terror. They did not want to have to worry if they or a loved one would be next in the wrongfully executed list. Although Anti-War activists have many reasons why not to go to war, another one of their claims is that Saddam Hussein dose not pose a “real” threat to America. This clam is absolutely outrageous and simply not true. It has been shown in history that Saddam Hussein does not care about the lives or well being in any way of Americans. What history has shown is that he has no problem taking Americans prisoner and brutally torturing them. Saddam Hussein also poses a threat to Israel. As everyone knows, we look out for Israel. We do this for political reason, but what ever the reason may be, we help to protect them. If Saddam poses a threat to Israel, he indirectly poses a threat to the United States. That is how he could pose a threat to the best interests of America. Another way that he could be a threat to the best interests to the United States has to do with oil. Saddam Hussein owns one of the largest oil reserves in the world. “Eleven percent of the world’s oil” (Published in a leaflet by the communist party or Britain by Marxist Leninist in 2002). If he were to cut off all of his oil supply that would in return cause a dramatic increase in the price that America would have to pay. But this would also dramatically hurt his own pocket book. But if he were to do this, it would create a dramatic inflation in the price of crude oil all around the world. To elaborate more on Saddam Hussein’s capabilities, the term W.M.D. or Weapons of Mass Destruction comes to mind. American Intelligence knows for a fact that Saddam Hussein has these weapons. They know this by not only has he used them before, but also according to the reports of a Senate Banking Committee 2002, the "United States provided the government of Iraq with 'dual-use' licensed materials which assisted in the development of Iraqi chemical, biological and missile-system programs.” Saddam Hussein has been known to use these weapons of mass destruction on his own people. He instructed one of his generals Ali Husan al-Majid, also known by the name of Chemical Ali, to brutally murder eight thousand Kurds in nineteen eighty three in the northern part of Iraq. A Dictator with this type of reputation opposes a great danger to all humans on earth, especially to that of his greatest enemy, America. Saddam Hussein is not a stupid man. He knows that he would never be able to successful attack America with these weapons. But what is to stop him from selling these weapons to terrorists that would have a greater chance at being successful with a strike on America. On September eleventh they were able to attack us and kill three thousand people. If they had in their possession a weapon of Mass Destruction, at the time, the casualty rate would have been cataclysmic. There is no reason to think that Saddam Hussein wouldn’t sell or even give these weapons to terrorist groups. After Nine Eleven, America has realized just how susceptible its self is. We can’t get all the terrorists, so we have to go after the source. Some anti-war activists claim that Saddam will not sell these weapons based on the fact that Al Qaeda and the Iraqi regime don’t get along as described by Scott Burchill, lecturer in international relations at the School of Social & International Studies, Deakin University saying, “Osama bin Laden offered the Saudi Government the resources of his organization to remove Iraqi forces from Kuwait in 1990 instead of Riyadh ...
