It was achieved using iron rich and alkali flux clay. Then they were fired in wood kiln. When it reached 800 degrees vents were closed. They then changed into black oxide at about 950 degrees centigrade. Then they were cooled down trapping oxygen in to remain a blackish color. The three fixing steps weren’t too difficult either. A permanent chamber with a door or bricked up opening served as a kiln. It had a short chimney with provision.
