The severity of the situation in MF is reinforced through the composers use of vivid imagery to describe the events up to and including the riots. In the poem The Love Song of ….. the composer TS Elliot creates a character who is obsessed, isolated, overeducated, neurotic and emotionally incapable. The poem is a variation on a dramatic monologue and as result is specifically directed at the listener, which is suggested through the speakers words. This reinforced the impact Prufrocks situation had on me as a listener. The text conveyed meaning about the social isolation and inferiority felt by Prufrock through the development and revelation of him as a character. This methodical progression came about because of the text type. To convey meaning about Prufrocks hopeless situation Eliot poses rhetorical questions “ How should I begin and How should I presume, this coupled with the creation of hypothetical encounters with the woman he loves leads to a sort of ephipany. This ephiphany is that Prufrock finds himself to be so influenced and persuaded by society he cannot dare disturb the universe and must be content to do nothing and remain in silent torment.
