In the next few years he was introduced to Paul McCartny, and they changed the group mane to the Beatles. John had recalled having a dreams in prior years of a man in a flaming pie saying that he shall be a beetle with an “a”. From that day on despite the many musician switches, the group would be known as the Beatles. The Beatles were discovered by Brian Epstein who would later become their manager. Along with George Martain as their manager the Beatles released their first hit “Love Me Do”, which made it all the way to number seventeen on the popular music charts. Their first number one hit was a song that John actually wrote called “Please Please Me”. The song was inspired by Roy Orbison, but also was fed by Johns infatuation with Bing Crosby’s famous pun “Please, lend your little ears to my please.” Meanwhile John married Cynthia Powell in August of 1962. A few years later they had a son named Julian. Cynthia described John as “Rough, ready and not her type at all, but had an irresistible character.” Because of the Beatles growing popularity in Britain, Cynthia and Julian had to keep a very low profile. John Lennon ended up divorcing Cynthia and remarrying Yoko Ono, who he had meet at the Indica Gallery in November 1966. In 1970 the Beatles broke up after Paul McCartney announced that he was quitting the band. John Lennon then went on his way and began his solo career with the release of his first solo album Imagine. This project was truly passionate work from John because it expressed his dream for the world and idealism. He began to do concerts again, many which were charity concerts. John and Yoko also did a series of rock concerts that began in Toronto, Canada at the Peace Festival in 1969. These concerts made a strong statement for peace and love, and all of the proceeds were given to the needy. In 1972 the Vietnam War protest was raging and the Feminist Movement was beginning to take action. One of these concerts was held at Madison Square Gardens on August 30, 1972, as a charity to help improve the living conditions of mentally handicapped children. John Lennon Yoko and their new band the “Plastic Ono Band” demonstrated love and brotherhood at their concerts by singing their trade mark song, “Give Peace a Chance.” That turned out to be the last song that John Lennon performed with the “Plastic Ono Band.” In 1973, John and Yoko separated for over a year because of public pressure and other relationship problems.
