Three Acomplishments I Have Achieved Serving in a Position of Leadership
...ren at the local library. Volunteering at the library gives me quality experience as I prepare for my profession as an elementary school teacher. In addition to serving as an officer for Phi Theta Kappa, I am also Vice President of Holmes chapter of Future Educators of America; an organization started on the Holmes campus my freshman year. I assisted my advisor in collecting information about FEA and aided in the development of the organization. The severe teacher shortage in Mississippi was my motivation for helping with the establishment of FEA on our campus, as FEA is a stepping-stone for future educators in our country and in our state. As vice president, I also work with local schools and collect information that would benefit the participants in FEA. I also read to students, assist with homework assignments, and help grade papers. There have been many detours in my life, but I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. I plan to be the best teacher that I can be. The experience I receive from volunteering is a reward within itself. It provides me the opportunity to work with young people and enables me to to understand the obstacles I will face as an educator. Finally, I am a tutor for Holmes Community College Student Support Services. I tutor Beginning Algebra, Intermediate, and College Algebra students. I enjoy helping students whao have a hard time with their studies, and being a tutor is very dear to me. I had difficulties in high school with math, yet I overcame those obstacles with hard work and determination. I too, had a tutor. As a tutor I provide the needed help that someome needs to pass a course, and I take pride in being an excellent tutor. I stay in the tutoring center until they close he...
