Columbine
...rench coat mafia. This teasing caused Dillon and Eric to become very depressed because they wanted to be respected and liked.. Having to deal with teasing day in and day out really puts a person into depression and makes the victim angry. These boys were depressed, angry, and felt helpless. When Eric was in school he wrote an essay on how he wanted to be a bullet firing into a person and told other peers how he would come into the school and start shooting everyone in his way. That action alone causes for the school to be involved and asking the question why? This was saying I need help and the teacher and students just ignored it. Both boys also made a video called “hit man for hire” which Dillon and Eric were the hit men wearing trench coats killing people. Many of their actions they did was a really big cry for help and no one heard them crying inside. Dillon and Eric both decided to massacre the school and shoot everyone in their way because they wanted the worst revenge because everyone ignored their problems and treated them badly. They did not want others to achieve positive goals because they thought their goals were impossible to achieve. Although these boys not only wanted to be liked and treated fairly they had goals and dreams that they wanted to accomplish. Dillon played soccer and wanted to go to college. On the other hand Eric wanted to be in the military and become a demolition specialist. The military did not accept Eric because he had an illness. Due to the goal being shattered Eric then called his ninth grade girlfriend and made her come to another friends house and faked his suicide also video tapping her reaction. Why did Eric feel his goals were shattered? Because his positive valued stimuli was removed and caused him a great deal of strain with everything going on around him. The loss of a positive stimuli may lead to delinquency as the adolescent tries to prevent the loss, retrieve what has been lost, obtain substitutes, or seek revenge against those responsible for the loss (Juvenile Delinquency p.90). Many people who knew both teens say that Dillon would not have done this without Eric. Dillon was more a follower and not a leader. With this Strain Eric wanted revenge because he felt others were responsible for this and got Eric to go along with him . Eric wanted to substitute power and fame within the school to substitute for his refusal into the military. With careful thinking they made plans on how they were going to pay back the ones who showed them nothing but pain. The third Theory of Strain will be looking at why Dillon and Eric decided to go through with their plans to massacre the school. With the presentation of negative stimuli the boys felt anger, frustration, and fear from teasing. The greater the intensity and frequency of strain experienced, the greater their impact and more likely to cause delinquency(Juvenile Delinquency p.90). These boys were hurt by their goals not going right and other peers putting the down for who they were. Due to these everyday activities the boys then started planning to massacre the school. Both Dillon and Eric made videos on what they were going to do and made other videos on killing people. They gave hints to others in writings, verbally, and through drawings. All of the warning signs that were presented by these teens went unnoticed by everyone. They were troubled teens trying to get back at the ones who tormented them and took their pride. In Eric’...
