Finding Nemo: Not Just a Kid’s Movie
...h as Gill, a scarred-but-tough Angelfish. Everyone in the tank is trying to come up with a plan to escape into the ocean nearby. The key to the story that makes it so touching is that Marlin and Nemo never give up on each other and that they will somehow, someway, be reunited. Finding Nemo is a very beautiful film to look at. One of the more impressive aspects of the film’s animation was the picture of the ocean itself. The underwater world inhabited by Marlin and Nemo is filled with vibrant colors of the coral reefs, fish, sunken ships, and the swarms of jellyfish and sea tortoises. Scenes that take place above ground in the dentist’s office and in the harbor are just as impressive. At times it is as if you have to remind yourself that these are computer-generated images since they look real, as Rebecca Murray, a prominent movie reviewer states, “…the creatures in ‘Finding Nemo’ are more real than some flesh and blood actors.” The animators have made quite the effort to make the characters and scenery as real as possible. Murray goes on to include, “I found I was totally enchanted by this gorgeous, captivatingly illustrated fish tale.” Pixar’s animation is truly incredible. The ocean life is vivid and colorful as are each individual characters distinct personality. The film will engage the whole family. Despite the facts that “Nemo” is a Disney and animated film, it offers something for the whole family. The film is filled with subtle but clever references that the adults in the audience will find humorous, while the children are entertained by the characters’ vibrant colors and adventures. Movie reviewer Holly McClure points out, “the witty one-liners and quick-witted script will entertain the mature crowd, while the beautiful colors and catchy score will mesmerize the little ones.” Nowhere will you find the cutesy, overly annoying feelings used by many other children’s films.
